Macao's tourist arrivals up 17.8 pct in July

Macao registered 2.64 million tourist arrivals in July, a 17.8-percent rise on a monthly basis, but still witnessed a 3.8 percent year-on-year decline, the Statistics and Census Service said on Wednesday.

According to date released by the agency, the number of tourists from the Chinese mainland decreased by 6.1 percent year- on-year to 1.76 million in July, with those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropping by 5.3 percent.

Visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan increased by 5.7 percent and 0.1 percent respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea decreased by 22.5 percent compared with the same period of 2014.

In terms of long-distance passengers, the number of travelers from the United States, Australia, Canada and Britain also decreased.

In the first seven months of 2015, visitor arrivals totaled 17. 4 million, down by 3.5 percent year-on-year. Same-day visitors and overnight visitors decreased by 1.5 percent and 5.7 percent respectively. Endi
