Argentina's southern railway line renovated with Chinese support

Xinhua, August 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Argentine government on Tuesday reopened a local railway line between the capital Buenos Aires and the southeastern town of Gonzalez Catan, after receiving brand-new carriages from China at the end of July.

Officially launching the Belgrano line, Argentine Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo said "we are fulfilling our promise to renovate this line."

"The new units have received a warm welcome from passengers and they are part of the 81 self-propelled train carriages which have doubled this line's transportation capacity," said the minister.

The railway line, which is estimated to be able to carry 100,000 passengers daily, used to be mainly used by the poor.

"However, we are now converting it into a railway for honorable workers," said Randazzo.

China has provided a range of equipment and expertise to help Argentina renovate its railway lines, which are key to its regional economies. Endi
