Myanmar parliament leaves dozens of bills for legislation ahead of election

Myanmar's parliament is still leaving 50 bills for legislation before the present session goes into recess ahead of the upcoming general election scheduled for Nov. 8, an official report quoted the parliament speaker as saying on Wednesday.
Of the 50 bills, 17 are to be dealt with by the House of Representatives (Lower House), while 24 by the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and 9 by the Union Parliament comprising the two Houses.
It is estimated that several of these bills will not be passed into law until a new government is formed after the November election.
On last Thursday, the parliament voted in favor to suspend discussion on a bill recalling parliament representatives by just 1 percent of voters' complaint from their original constituencies during the present term of the parliament.
Despite temporary halt of the Upper House session starting last Wednesday for election preparation, the Lower House session is being kept on.
There is just a week left for the parliament to adjourn again for preparation of the election. Endi
