China's ambassador to Venezuela Zhao Bentang Tuesday reaffirmed his country's commitment to world peace at a commemoration of the Chinese victory in the anti-Japanese war held in the headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

The founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 is an example of "revitalization" by the political leadership of Beijing after the war of resistance, which has allowed China to overcome poverty and become the second largest economy in the world, the ambassador said.

"To prevent the repetition of the tragedy of war and defend peace in the world, there is no other way but to take history as a reference and look towards the future," Zhao said.

He also highlighted the increasing importance Beijing is attaching to establishing a new world order, in which the ideas of peaceful development, mutual support and peaceful coexistence among states prevail.

"China insists firmly on safeguarding the fruits of victory in World War II (WWII) and the international order established after this terrible event as well as the obligations of a responsible nation," the ambassador said.

Zhao stressed Beijing's historic position as a founding member of the United Nations and its Security Council, which today represents the main mechanism to safeguard stability and peace in the world.

He also referred to Venezuela's role during WWII, when Caracas contributed oil supplies to Allied nations.

Moreover, the Chinese ambassador highlighted the close friendship between Beijing and Caracas as part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between both nations.

"We're convinced that a brilliant future and strong cooperation await Sino-Venezuelan ties," Zhao said.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez said what factors contributed to the successful outcome of the anti-fascist struggle.

"No doubt this event (WWII) still has favorable consequences because fascism was defeated and it was thanks to the unity of the people, their disposition to fight and resistance in defense of humanity that today we can be here to commemorate this important date," she said.

A photo exhibition on the 70th anniversary of China's victory was inaugurated at the event with images provided by Xinhua.

The pictures show the Chinese people's struggle against fascism and the diplomacy of peace, development and cooperation Beijing has developed after that historic feat. Endi
