Xinhua, August 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Authorities in the eastern U.S. state of West Virginia said Tuesday that a 14-year-old male student with a pistol had held several students and a teacher hostage earlier at a high school in the state.

All hostages were set free and the suspect was in police custody. No injury was reported, said a statement by West Virginia State Police Department.

According to police, after local 911 received a call at around 13:30 p.m. local time with regard to a person with a gun at Philip Barbour High School, the school was immediately placed on lockdown.

Once there, police officers determined that a 14-year-old boy student was holding several fellow students and a teacher hostage with a pistol in a second floor classroom. All other students were evacuated and negotiators were dispatched to the scene.

After negotiations, the suspect agreed to set free hostages and later surrendered himself, said the statement, adding that the motive remained unknown. Endit
