Brunei starts National Survey on Non-Communicable Diseases

Brunei's national survey on Non-Communicable Diseases is being carried out Tuesday until Jan. 31 next year, according to the country's Health Promotion Center.

According to Doctor Hajah Norhayati binti Haji Muhd Kassim, the head of the Health Promotion Center as the Joint Deputy Chairman of Non-Communicable Diseases Survey, the survey among others aimed to evaluate the status and rate of non-communicable diseases which is affecting Brunei residents today. Throughout four decades, the main cause of death in the country is from non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart problems and diabetes.

About 4,321 people have been randomly selected to participate in the survey comprising citizens and residents in the country from the four districts aged 18 to 69 years. The survey will be carried out by 50 qualified data collectors namely nurses, certified paramedics, qualified researchers and officers from the Center of Strategic and Policy Studies.

The information will be collected using electronic PDA's and personal information will be kept confidential. The survey will be carried out daily including the weekends and public holidays from 8a.m. in the morning until 9p.m. at night, said the Health Promotion Center. Endi
