Seven Singapore companies agree to sign UN Global Compact

Xinhua, August 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Seven more Singapore companies have agreed to adopt sustainable and responsible business practices under United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), local media reported Tuesday.

The number of Singapore-based UNGC signatories has become 66, as these companies, including CapitaLand, Sembcorp Industries and YTL PowerSeraya, pledged to follow the guiding principles set by UNGC, which is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to take steps to support UN goals.

The new signatories were presented with special certificates by UNGC at the opening ceremony of the 2015 International Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Summit, which is organized by Global Compact Network Singapore.

During the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Singapore's Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu said the impact of climate change and extreme weather condition cuts across borders and regions, urging Singapore companies to make contribution to fighting climate change and ensuring sustainable development.
