Indonesia urges South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to reduce tension and maintain peace in the peninsula, a statement released by the foreign ministry said here on Monday.

"In view of the recent exchange of fires and military tension at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on August 20, Indonesia calls on both sides to stay calm and maintain the utmost restraint," said the statement.

"Indonesia emphasizes the importance of reducing tensions and maintaining conditions conducive for peace, stability and development in both countries and the region," it said. Endi
