8 policemen confirmed killed in clash with protesters in W. Nepal

Eight policemen were killed Monday in a clash between police and protesters in the far western district Kailali of Nepal, Nepali government has confirmed.

Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, spokesperson of the Home Ministry, told media here on Monday that "Eight security personnel including Nepal Police and Armed Police force have been killed in the clash. "

Immediately after the incident, Kailali district has been announced as a crisis zone by the government.

Nepal Army has already been mobilized in the area to take the situation under control.

The situation turned violent after protesters demanding autonomous "Tharuwat" province entered a restricted zone.

Details are not available on the deaths from the protesters' side as telephone lines have been disconnected.

The spokesperson said, "Protesters have cut off the optical fiber lines in the whole area leading to disconnection of telephones." Endi
