Poland's Pawel Fajdek won the men's hammer throw gold medal with a throw of 80.88 meters at the world athletics championships here on Sunday.

"I came here as a favorite and wanted to do my best, I was training hard for this championships and I felt very confident," he said.

Fajadk's best effort came in the fourth round as he threw 80.88 meters after his second attempt was disallowed.

"The goal was 80 meters and more but the first two throws were technically not that good. The third was very important and I was happy to improve in fourth as there was not much time to get some rest before the final," he said.

Fajdek, born in 1989 and the youngest defending champion of this discipline, dominated 2015 top 9 throws, including his personal best of 83.93.

"Comparing to the gold in Moscow, every medal is different and each has its own value and own story," he said.

Dilshod Nazarov from Tajikistan took silver and Poland's Wojciech Nowicki had bronze, both posting 78.55 meters.

Fajdek said: "The medal has got even sweeter taste as my roommate gets the bronze medal. I can tell you, it will be a big party tonight." Enditem
