First American college basketball team visits Cuba

Xinhua, August 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Coastal Carolina was the first American college team to tour Cuba since the United States eased relations with the island country this summer.

Cliff Ellis, coach of Coastal Carolina, said on Tuesday they discovered a warm, welcoming group of people eager to show their support for their American neighbors.

Ellis said he was moved when the anthems were played before the opening game against the Cuban national team and gifts were exchanged.

After the games with the Cuban team, Coastal Carolina coaches taught the game to their Havana counterparts and the visiting players held basketball clinics for children. Endi
