Tokyo shares plunge on declines in other markets

Tokyo shares ended the trading Wednesday sharply lower following poor performances of other stocks markets.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 331.84 points, or 1. 61 percent, from Tuesday at 20,222.63.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 23.74 points, or 1.42 percent, at 1, 648.48.

Decliners were led by insurance, air transport and chemicals.

The turnover was about 2,425.4 billion yen (about 19.52 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
