Over 60 charged for political violence in Fiji

More than 60 people in Fiji have been charged with sedition in various matters, the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) confirmed Tuesday.

Christopher Pryde, director of public prosecutions, has charged the individuals arrested in the Pacific island country's Western Division over the past three weeks with sedition, instigating political violence and communal antagonism.

Last week, Fijan Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said any insurrection will be crushed.

Anyone who encourages political violence will face the full force of the law and this needs to be understood by every Fijian, Bainimarama underscored. Endi
