A train hit a minibus, killing at least 15 people and injuring six others near Durban in eastern South Africa on Monday.

The minibus which was overloaded hit the guard rail of a highway, landed on the railway line and was hit by an incoming train, said Zinhle Mngomezulu, spokesperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate.(S. Africa-Road-Carnage)

DAR ES SALAAM -- The number of people killed by cholera in Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam rose from one to four on Monday, said medical authorities.

LAGOS -- Two people were killed and one other injured when two trains collided in southwest city of Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub, authorities said on Monday.

The two casualties were passengers who illegally hanged on the rooftop of the moving train on Sunday, Akin Osinowo, Lagos Railway District Manager (RDM) told reporters.(Nigeria-Train Collision)

MANAGUA -- At least two police officers and three voluntary policemen died after being ambushed last Saturday in the city of Bluefields in the south of Nicaragua, local press revealed on Monday.

In a press release, the national police confirmed that the five policemen, from the city of Bluefields, were ambushed and murdered by an armed gang.(Nicaragua-Ambush)

BUJUMBURA -- At least eight people including two policemen were injured in a grenade explosion that happened Monday afternoon at Musaga in the south of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, witnesses told Xinhua after the incident.

"An unidentified man blasted a grenade on a group of persons near a bridge between the Second Avenue and the Third Avenue at Musaga at 16:15 (14:15 GMT). Eight persons were injured and two of them were policemen," said witnesses. (Burundi-Explosion)

BANGKOK -- Nineteen people were killed and at least 117 others injured in an explosion in downtown Bangkok on Monday night, the Chinese embassy in Thailand cited Thai health authorities as saying.

Three Chinese nationals were killed, and around 15 others hurt, some of whom sustain moderate and severe injuries, in the blast that happened at about 7 p.m. local time near Erawan Shrine at Ratchaprasong intersection, a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists, the embassy said.(Bangkok-Explosion) Endi
