Nigeria invites 18 players for AFCON qualifier

Xinhua, August 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria's Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh on Monday released a list of 18 overseas-based players for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.

The game billed for Sept. 4 in Dar es Salaam is a Match Day Two fixture in the qualifiers for Gabon 2017.

First-choice goalkeeper and team captain Vincent Enyeama headline the list which also has defenders Godfrey Oboabona, Leon Balogun and Kenneth Omeruo.

The list also has midfielders Rabiu Ibrahim, Lukman Haruna and Joel Obi, as well as forwards Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and Anthony Ujah.

There are however a number of surprises, and this appears to be in line with Oliseh's earlier pledge to make current form and first-level football key indices for selection.

These are goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, midfielder Ernest Uzochukwu and forwards Emem Eduok, Sylvester Igboun and Moses Simon.

All the 18 players are expected in Abuja latest on Monday, Aug. 31, and will join the 23 home-based players who arrived camp in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city on Monday. Endit
