Some of the world's biggest names in high energy physics met here Monday for the 27th International Symposium on Lepton Photon Interactions at High Energies which will last until Saturday.

The biennial conference series will hear about the latest scientific breakthroughs in theoretical and experimental particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology as well as the future research in the fields.

The University of Ljubljana and the Jozef Stefan Institute are coorganizers for the series.

Big names like British theoretical physicist John Ellis, Cern CEO Rolf-Dieter Heuer and the Jefferson Lab CEO Hugh Montgomery are among participants of the conference.

On Thursday, the acclaimed American physicist Alan Guth will give a public lecture on inflationary cosmology.
