Small shuttlecock reflects big friendliness at Chinese Ethnic Games

Xinhua, August 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

The shuttlecock event of the 10th Chinese Ethnic Games came to a conclusion, with Guangdong winning the first prize in both men's and women's categories here on Saturday.

More importantly, a small shuttlecock reflects big friendliness between athletes from all 56 ethnic groups in China.

"Come on!" Athletes exchanged their greetings before the match featuring Guizhou and Jiangsu, which is normal in shuttlecock matches.

Tibetan girl Lamu from Jiangsu team felt very excited to meet some friends again at the Ethnic Games.

"In terms of the result, we don't have a clear goal. Actually, we hope to learn from and exchange with athletes from other places," said Jiangsu coach.

Five players in Jiangsu team are all university students. They have their own ethnic groups: Tibet, Kazak, Tujia, Han and Xibe. It is the small shuttlecock that bridges them together.

Xinjiang team player Zhou Yun echoed what Lamu said.

In Zhou's opinion, Xinjiang has a relatively lower level compared with other provinces, and the team's goal at this tournament is also to have some exchanges with other teams.

"Many provinces have professional shuttlecock schools, which we lack in Xinjiang," said Zhou.

Lack of place, lack of professional guidance on shuttlecock, Zhou and her teammates often take their training on square after supper, with the companion of their families.

That doesn't deter Zhou and her teammates from coming here to attend the tournament. Moreover, they have a good opportunity to exchange with the athletes from other places.

"It provides us with a platform to know and communicate with each other," said Wei Shujuan, a Mongolian athlete from Hebei team.

Deep friendship between athletes has moved Jin Long, coach of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps team.

An athlete of ethnic Han took care of a Uygur teammate's child just as hers, which gave Jin a better understanding of what shuttlecock can do to bridge different ethnic groups.

"We are family!" What Jin said is what everyone desired for. Endi
