Luis Enrique bullish after Barca lose 4-0 in Bilbao

Xinhua, August 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona coach Luis Enrique put a brave face on things after his side's dream of winning six trophies in 2015 was dealt a huge blow by Athletic Club Bilbao late on Friday night.

Aritz Aduriz scored a hat-trick for Athletic who defeated Barca 4-0 in the first leg of the Spanish Supeercup, meaning Barca need to produce something very special if they are to turn things around in front of their fans on Monday night.

However, after resting key players in Bilbao, Luis Enrique was confident that if anyone could turn such an adverse result around, it was Barca.

"If anyone can bounce back from this, it's Barca, at least we are going to try with all of our strength," he said after the game.

The result means Barca's defense has now conceded 8 goals in two games and the coach admitted that was a major concern.

"Of course I' m worried about that. I' m concerned that we are letting in so many goals and it's an issue that we will correct. Football is a game of mistakes but we've gone from being the team to concede the least amount of goals to being a side which lets them in too easily," he said

He also discussed his changes, which saw players such as Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta Igor Rakitic and Sergio Busquets all rested.

"I made rotations in the team and I accept responsibility for the defeat... It won' t be the same on Monday. We made a lot of changes to the starting XI but we had no choice. This is not the right time to be wearing players out - some of whom played for two hours on Tuesday," he said, before praising Athletic.

"I've never played an easy game against Athletic in my life, neither as a player or a coach," he said looking ahead to the return leg.

"On Monday, with our fans behind us, we hope that we can get an early goal. If any team can respond to this result, it's us."

Meanwhile Aduriz echoed Luis Enriques words, warning his companions they would have to try and score in Barcelona "we should not think four goals will be enough," he said. Endi
