Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong conveyed their condolences on explosion at a warehouse at the Tianjin Port located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, said the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Friday.

MFA said President Tan and PM Lee Hsien Loong have written to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang respectively.

President Tan wrote that he was saddened to learn about the explosion in the Tianjin Binhai New Area in his letter. On behalf of the people of Singapore, he extended his deepest condolences to all the victims and the affected families.

President Tan said that "Tianjin is also home to many Singaporeans", as many Singaporeans work in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city. He also thanked the government of Tianjin Municipality for the assistance provided to affected Singaporeans.

PM Lee Hsien Loong "was shocked" to hear of the tragic explosions occurred in Tianjin. In his letter to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, PM Lee said that Singapore stands ready to work closely with Chinese government and the Tianjin authorities to render any support that may need.

PM Lee also mentioned that he is confident that rescue operations will be conducted effectively, and the situation will be quickly brought under control. Endi
