Rainstorms have battered southwest China's Guizhou and Yunnan provinces over the past two days, affecting over 40,000 people and causing massive economic losses.

Some 230,000 people from six counties in Guizhou have been affected, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters. The storm also affected 36,000 mu (2,400 hectares) of cropland and damaged country roads, resulting in economic losses of about 10 million yuan (1.56 million U.S. dollars), the headquarters said.

The Guizhou Provincial Meteorological Station forecast rainstorms for the next two days.
