Tokyo shares end higher with Nikkei jumping about 1 pct

Tokyo shares ended higher Thursday with its benchmark Nikkei index jumping about 1 percent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 202.78 points, or 0. 99 percent, higher from Wednesday at 20,595.55.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.20 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,667. 95.

Gainers were led by utilities, warehousing and pharmaceutical issues.

The turnover was about 2,889.0 billion yen (about 23.20 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
