Parachuting Friendship Cup opens at Cuban resort

The 2nd Parachuting Friendship Cup opened on Tuesday at Cuban resort of Varadero with the participation of athletes from Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Peru and the United States who will compete in Precision Landing Category.
According to Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, the parachuting competition will run until Aug. 15 and is held at the International Parachuting Center (CIP) located in Varadero, the most important Cuban resort, 140km east of Havana.
Gabriel Cuellar, President of the Cuban Parachuting Federation, welcomed the athletes and directives, while Ernesto Adlum, president of Cuba's Aviation Club, announced the official opening of the event.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, Cuellar said some 50 men and women parachuters are taking part in the competition, which includes eight qualifying rounds before the finals.
He also said the cup's goal is to help improve the competitive level of the athletes and as an opportunity so that Cuba will set a new record in free falling category.
The Varadero CIP was opened in 1993 and offers several recreation plans for tourists such as tandem jump, single jump and others. Endi
