Singapore stocks close 2.9 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 91. 57 points, or 2.9 percent, to close at 3,061.49.

A total of 1.76 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 2. 15 billion Singapore dollars (1.53 billion U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 432 to 96, while 411 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 43.60 points, or 1.36 percent, to close at 3, 153.06 on Tuesday. Endi
