The Ugandan team finally traveled to US on Tuesday morning ahead of the 2015 Little League Softball World Series.
"We are happy that finally the US Embassy in Kampala gave the players and officials visas after listening to our request that we needed to be in the US early before the start of the Series," Paul Nkubito Kateregga, the development Director at Uganda Little League Baseball and Softball body told Xinhua.
The Ugandan team had been worried that they would miss the tournament if the US Embassy issued the visas late. The 2015 Little League Softball World Series is slated to take place August 14-19 in Portland, Oregon.
Uganda' s team of 11-12 years old girls last month qualified to represent Africa/Europe after the qualifiers in Kutno, Poland. The team coached by Allen Vivian Balondemu and Dorren Nampiima beat Italy 6-5 in the final of the Europe/Africa Championship qualifiers.
Kateregga said he was happy that the team will finally have the chance to show their talent in the World Series. "I think the girls have trained well and should be able to perform well," he added. The boys team that also qualified for the 2015 Little League Baseball World Series also received their US visas.
All expenses including air fares, accommodation and meals for Uganda' s girls and boys World Series events will be paid by the World Baseball and Softball body. Endi
