Late backheel goalkeeper earns ADO draw against PSV

Xinhua, August 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

A stunning backheel by goalkeeper Martin Hansen in stoppage-time gave ADO Den Haag a point against PSV (2-2) in the first match round of the Eredivisie on Tuesday.

Five minutes into injury-time reigning champions PSV led 2-1 in The Hague, when ADO substitute Kenji Gorre was about to take a free-kick and the ADO goalkeeper ran forward for the last chance of the home-team. What followed was remarkable. With a flying backheel Hansen lifted the free-kick by Gorre in the goal, leaving PSV flabbergasted.

PSV had started the match well with an opening goal by Adam Maher, who was offside when Davy Propper assisted him, but referee Richard Liesveld allowed the goal in the 23rd minute. After a foul by Santiago Arias on Aaron Meijers ADO were awarded a penalty two minutes later. Roland Alberg converted the chance from the penalty spot.

With a header on a cross by Luciano Narsingh PSV captain Luuk de Jong seemed to have decided the match in the second half, but Hansen's highlight caused the late 2-2 draw. Hansen was the first goalkeeper to score an Eredivisie goal since Go Ahead Eagles goalie Erik Cummins on August 17 last year against Excelsior.

The draw meant a huge blow for defending champions PSV, who won the Dutch Super Cup last week by beating Cup holders FC Groningen 3-0 in Amsterdam. Last weekend PSV's main rivals Ajax and Feyenoord started the season with a 3-0 away win at AZ and a 3-2 home win against FC Utrecht respectively. Endit
