Ajax started the 2015/2016 Eredivisie season in the Netherlands on Sunday with a comfortable 3-0 win over AZ in Alkmaar.
Last season's number two Ajax took the lead through Anwar El Ghazi. The right winger surprised AZ goalkeeper Sergio Rochet in the 14th minute with a fierce shot from 30 meters into the top corner.
El Ghazi also scored the second goal in the 38th minute. He headed in a free-kick by Nemanja Gudelj, who moved to Ajax from AZ this summer. Gudelj produced the third Ajax goal two minutes later with a long-distance shot. In the second half both teams created little and the match ended in a 3-0 victory for the visitors.
On Saturday Feyenoord started the season with a 3-2 victory over FC Utrecht in Rotterdam. The 35-year-old striker Dirk Kuyt, who had returned to Feyenoord after a spell of nine years abroad at Liverpool and Fenerbahce, scored the third home-goal from the penalty spot. Newcomers Roda JC Kerkrade defeated Heracles Almelo 3-1.
Due to an announced strike by Dutch police five matches of the start of the season were moved from this weekend to next week. The mayors of five cities prohibited the matches in their towns due to the police actions, because they could not guarantee security. Reigning champions PSV will therefore start the season on Tuesday at ADO Den Haag. Endit
