The Syrian air force on Sunday killed as many as 30 Islamic State (IS) militants in a central town recently overran by the terror-labeled group, according to the state news agency SANA.

Saudis and Tunisians were among those targeted by the air strikes in the town of Qaryateyn in the southeastern countryside of the central province of Homs, said SANA.

It added that vehicles and weapons were also destroyed by the strikes.

Last week, The IS militants stormed the town after carrying out several suicide car bombings at its outskirts.

The terror militants also snatched 230 civilians, including 60 Christians, after storming the town.

The number includes 19 children, whose destiny is still unknown, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Intense battles are raging between the IS and the Syrian army, which was backed by the air force.

Reports said the army withdrew and repositioned to avoid losses while the air force and artillery were still shelling the town. Enditem
