Gunfight between militants, troops rages on Kashmir LoC

Xinhua, August 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

A gunfight between militants and Indian troops broke out Saturday on the Line of Control (LoC) dividing Kashmir, officials said.

"A fierce encounter triggered between troops and militants today afternoon after the army's counter infiltration grid intercepted militant movement in the area," a senior police official said. "The cordon is intact and gunfight is going on."

India's official broadcaster - All India Radio (AIR) - said a group of five heavily armed infiltrators have infiltrated into the Indian side near Madhuri-Ragni post along the LoC.

No causality was reported on either side.

The LoC is a de facto border that divides Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.

A guerrilla war has been going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian- controlled Kashmir since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region. Endi
