Stabbing suspect shot dead by police in southern California

A man suspected of stabbing six people in southern California was shot dead by police Friday night.

The stabbings occurred at 8:18 p.m. local time (0318 GMT Saturday) on a street of Long Beach, a coastal city in southern California. Police officers were called to the scene of an active stabbing and confronted the suspect, Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Megan Zabel said.

The shooting then occurred and the suspect died at the scene, Zabel added.

Five of the six stabbing victims were hospitalized and at least one was in critical condition, local media reported.

No information was available about the identity of the victims and the motivation of the stabbing is under investigation. Endi
