Attack kills foreign troop in Afghanistan

A soldier of the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission was killed during an attack in Kabul on Friday night, said a statement of released by the coalition on Saturday.

"A Resolute Support service member was killed during an attack on a coalition facility in Kabul, Afghanistan, August 7, 2015," the statement said.

However, it didn't identify the nationality and the location of the incident, saying it is Resolute Support policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.

Two insurgent attackers were also killed in the incident, said the statement.

A spokesperson with the RS Public Affairs office when approached by Xinhua confirmed that the victim is a U.S. national.

Taliban attacked a foreign military base and Counter-Narcotics Directorate in Qasaba locality of Kabul at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and the gun battle lasted till 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police sources said.

More than 13,000 American and NATO-led RS troops have remained in Afghanistan following the end of the alliance combat mission here in December 2014 to train and advice Afghan national security forces. Endi
