Corruption police chief investigated for fraud in Australia

Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission is investigating allegations of corrupt conduct involving the chief of the Australian state's fraud squad.

The squad's former boss, Detective Superintendent Brian Hay, took leave in June but it has since emerged he is now the subject of an investigation over the possible misuse of a corporate credit card.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Wednesday that the commission also looking into Hay's role in corporate education and training events.

Superintendent Hay organized fraud and cybercrime symposiums in Queensland and attended events elsewhere in the country and overseas.

The officer has had a high media profile in the job he stepped aside from in June.

He had told staff in a memo he was taking 12 months leave because he had been "recently been approached to dip my toe into the world of the private sector."

"I have spoken to the [assistant commissioner] who has spoken to the commissioner and they are supportive of my request," he said.

The commission's investigation is continuing. Endi
