Spain's unemployment falls by 1.8 pct in July

The number of people registered as unemployment in Spain fell by 1.8 percent when compared with June, according to data unveiled on Tuesday by the Ministry of Employment.

The ministry said there were a total of 4,046,276 people registered as unemployed in July, the lowest figure since September 2010.

The figure meant 74,028 fewer people out of work in the country, the biggest fall in July since 1998, while on a year-on-year basis the number of people registered as unemployed fell by 373,584 people.

Unemployment fell in all sectors, especially in the services sector due to the tourist peak season where it fell by 44,303 people. In the agriculture, industry and construction sectors it fell by 2,325 people, 11,281 people and 10,511 people respectively.

The number of men unemployed fell by 43,555 to a total of 1,834,143 people and the number of women fell by 30,473 people to a total of 2,212,133 women.

According to Spain's State Secretary of Employment, Juan Pablo Riesgo, this data proved that the "improvement within Spain's labor market is consolidating, and even, intensifying".

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said the fall meant that Spain was on the right path. Endit
