Uganda's KCCA FC place third at Cecafa Kagame Club Championship

KCCA FC, Uganda's Premier League side finished third in the 2015 regional Cecafa Kagame Club Championship that climaxed in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday.

The Ugandan side beat Sudan's Al Khartoum 2-1 in a play-off game played at the National Stadium. The win earned KCCA FC bronze medal and a US$10,000 cash prize.

"This is a big achievement because we have just assembled this team with several new players and two new coaches," KCCA FC's Acting Chief Executive Officer David Tamale told Xinhua in Kampala.

Michael Birungi scored in the 7th minute before Muzamir Mutyaba made it 2-0 after 10 minutes. But the Sudan team handled by Kwesi Appiah who guided Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil regained their form to score after 25 minutes. Ousmalia Baba made no mistake scoring Atif Khalid's good cross.

In the final, home side Azam FC stopped Gor Mahia FC of Kenya 2-0. John Bocco netted an early goal after 17 minutes before Kipre Tchetche made it 2-0 on 64 minutes. The winners walked away with US$30,000, while the runners-up nagged US$20,000.

The tournament partly sponsored by Rwanda President Paul Kagame attracted 13 teams from Tanzania, Kenya, Djibouti, Zanzibar, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Uganda. Endi
