Uganda qualify for 2015 Little League Softball World Series

Uganda's team of 11-12 year old girls have qualified for the 2015 Little League Softball World Series.

The team coached by Allen Vivian Balondemu and Dorren Nampiima beat Italy 6-5 in the final of the Europe/Africa Championship qualifiers held in Kutno, Poland on Thursday night.

Paul Nkubito Kateregga, the Development Director at Uganda Little League Baseball told Xinhua on Friday that they are happy about the achievements since the boys team also qualified for the Baseball World Series.

He said the girls will return and straight away start preparing for the event to take place in Portland, Oregon between August 14-20.

Jasper Aligawesa, the General Secretary of the National Council of Sports (NCS) praised the Uganda Little League body for the work well done for promoting the sport and making sure the youngsters perform at International level.

Kateregga said the two teams of the boys and girls will now return to process their US visas before traveling. "All expenses and accommodation for the teams will be paid by the the World Baseball and Softball body," added the official.
