8 dead in Lithuania due to highly concentrated heroin

Xinhua, July 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Eight people have died in the past two weeks here due to an overdose of highly concentrated drugs, police officials said Thursday.

According to Vilnius police, all the victims bought the heroin at a Roma settlement in the outskirts of Vilnius.

"After conducting the tests of the drugs seized at the Roma settlement, it was revealed that drug concentration in the heroin is 30 to 50 percent," said the Vilnius County Police Commissariat in a press release.

"This unusual concentration of drugs causes a death for drug users," it added.

Belarusian and Latvian citizens are among the victims, reports BNS news agency.

Police officials denied reports that heroin at the Roma settlement was mixed with rat drugs.

According to BNS, police informers are currently trying to detect the supplier of the higher concentration drugs at the Roma settlement. Endit
