Chinese invested mine to host maiden marathon in Namibia

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Namibian long-distance runners can look forward to one more race on the regional athletics calendar before the end of the year as Swakop Uranium, the developers of the Husab uranium mine will host their maiden marathon.

The introduction of the Husab Marathon and fun runs will take place on September 5. The marathon will start at the turn off to the access road leading to the Husab mine, along a scenic route and is expected to be a fun event for the participants.

The planned marathon routes will include the 5 km and 10 km races.

"We invite all Swakop Uranium employees, their families and communities in Namibia to participate in this day, as it is part of the High Performance multi-culture environment to acknowledge that diversity of culture is a strength," said Percy McCallum, Vice President Human Resources, Business Support of Swakop Uranium.

Swakop Uranium constructed and developed a world-class mine, the Husab mine, near the coastal town of Swakopmund in Namibia. The Chinese state-owned company Guangdong Nuclear Power Company (CGNPC) Uranium Resources Co. Ltd. and Epangelo Mining, a Namibian government-owned mining company, acquired the Husab Uranium Mine owned by Swakop Uranium. Endit
