Workers protest against draft labor law, disrupt traffic in Sarajevo

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thousands of workers protested against the draft of a new labor law, disrupting traffic in downtown Sarajevo on Thursday.

Protesters gathered in front of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) where lawmakers planned to vote on the new labor law.

Protesters demanded the workers' unions be involved in drafting of the new labor law before it is voted in parliament.

In the afternoon hours, some protesters tried to break the fences set by police, but there are no serious clashes.

Meanwhile, a group of protesters blocked an intersection at a major street, and police officers were forced to divert traffic.

BiH officials said the new law will move the country closer to EU membership. Workers, meanwhile, said the law will put them into "slavery". Enditem
