Over 200 Yemeni refugees arrive in Djibouti

Xinhua, July 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Yemeni commercial boat carrying 216 people fleeing the war in Yemen arrived in Djibouti on Wednesday, an official source told Xinhua.

According to the source, the refugees who were mostly women and children, were in good health.

Djiboutian authorities announced that since July 10, 2015, the country had witnessed a spike in the influx of Yemeni refugees.

Elsewhere, local media has reported that Djiboutian government is preparing for a further increase in the number of Yemeni refugees due to intensified fighting in Yemen's Bab-El Mandeb region that is closer to Djibouti border.

Djibouti which shares a maritime border with Yemen, is currently hosting thousands of Yemeni refugees.

The Djiboutian government has sought the support of the international community to set up a crisis center to manage the humanitarian consequences of the war in Yemen. Endit
