Police officer, civilian killed in gun attack in SE Turkey

A Turkish police officer and a civilian was killed and another civilian wounded in a gun attack in Diyarbakir province of Turkey late Wednesday amid escalating tension in the region, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported on early Thursday.
Police officer Mehmet Uyar and Osman Caran was shot with a long-barreled weapon fired from a car while Uyar was sitting in front of a tea house in the Cinar town of Diyarbakir, the agency quoted an anonymous police source as saying.
Ibrahim Turan was injured in the attack and taken under treatment at state hospital. The outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) is the suspect of the attack, as the group has recently launched several attacks on the Turkish security officers.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, three Turkish soldiers were injured in clashes with the PKK in eastern Agri province, private Dogan News Agency reported on Thursday.
A group of PKK members opened fire on gendarmerie on skirts of Agri Mountain near Dogubeyazit district, and security forces retaliated with fire.
Two PKK members were killed in clashes, Agri governorate said in a written statement.
The PKK, which claimed the lives of over 40,000 people, is still listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
