Thousands take part in Philippine capital earthquake drill

Thousands of people participated Thursday in the earthquake drill that was held in Metro Manila.

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III, who skipped the drill, monitored it by getting updates from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. in a news briefing in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

During the drill, with a scenario of a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, participants from government and private offices, schools and other groups did the "drop, cover, hold" routine and peacefully evacuated from the buildings.

Francis Tolentino, chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, which initiated the drill in the metropolis, said the training was successful as he hoped that this could again be conducted next year. Endi
