Vietnam sees rise in food poisoning cases in 7 months

Vietnam registered 79 serious food poisoning cases which affected 2,548 people, of whom 16 died, from January to July, the country's General Statistics Office said Thursday.

In July, 342 people in Vietnam suffered in 20 food poisoning cases which claimed three lives. The country saw 20 food poisoning cases which affected 756 people, including two fatalities in July 2014.

Vietnam detected 23,100 foot-and-mouth disease patients, 17,200 dengue fever cases and no new infections of bird flu virus A/H5N1 in the first seven months of this year, the General Statistics Office said, noting that the country reported 38,200 cases of foot- and-mouth disease, 12,900 dengue fever and two A/H5N1 infections in the same period last year.

Vietnam detected 610 HIV carriers in July, raising the total to 225,800, of whom 77,900 have become AIDS patients, the office announced. To date, 79,700 people in the country have died of AIDS- related causes. Endi
