Vietnam's northeast suffers from heaviest downpour in 40 years, 15 killed

Vietnam's northeastern Quang Ninh province is suffering from the heaviest downpours in the past days with 15 people killed and seven others missing.

Quang Ninh's hydro-meteorological station said that rainfall was measured at 828 mm in several places, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency on Wednesday.

The downpour which started on July 26 in Quang Ninh, some 120 km east of capital Hanoi, has caused total damage of over 1 trillion Vietnamese dong (around 46 million U.S. dollars) as of Wednesday night.

The heavy rain also left about 1,600 tourists stranded on two tourism islands in the province.

Quang Ninh's hydro-meteorological station said that heavy rain is expected to continue till Aug. 3, leading to high possibility of flash floods and landslides. Endi
