Seven moderate earthquakes hit Taiwan

Seven earthquakes, with the strongest measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale, hit northeast Taiwan's Yilan County Tuesday afternoon, the island's meteorological authorities said.

Seven earthquakes hit the island from noon to 3:30 p.m., six in the county's Datong Township and the other in Nan-ao Township. They measured between 3.6 and 4.4 in magnitude at depths ranging from 5.4 km to 11.8 km.
