Clipper Race fleet to arrive in Vietnam central city

Xinhua, July 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fleet of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the longest ocean race around the planet at over 40,000 nautical miles, will arrive in the central Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang in mid-February 2016, claimed by sponsors on a contract-signing ceremony held here Tuesday.

The ceremony has finalised a sponsorship agreement for Da Nang to be a Team Sponsor and the official South East Asia Host Port of the 2015-16 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

The team entry will be called Da Nang-Vietnam. This will be the first time in the event's 19-year history that a Vietnamese city has participated in the biennial Clipper Race.

Throughout the Clipper Race, which will visit 14 ports on six different continents, Da Nang will connect with investors, tourism representatives and travel agencies at events in different cities to promote tourism and investment in the city.

The Clipper Race was established in 1996 by Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world in 1968-69. The Clipper 2015-16 Race starts from London on August 30 and will be the event's 10th edition. Over 700 people from more than 40 countries and regions will take part. Endit
