2 soldiers killed, 4 wounded in southeastern Turkey

Two soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed with four others wounded in an explosion in southeastern Turkey late Saturday, private Dogan news agency reported on Sunday.

The blast occurred as a truck with bombs exploded against a convoy of Turkish troops on the highway of Diyarbakir in the southeast of Turkey, leaving two soldiers dead and four others injured. The wounded were sent to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the report.

On Friday, Turkish F-16 fighters took off from the airbases of Diyarbakir and bombed five target camps of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in the regions of Zap, Basyan, Bare, Avasin and Metina in northern Iraq, local NTV news channel reported.

The report said that after the first wave of attacks earlier in the day, the Turkish warplanes set off on a separately simultaneous mission against the IS late Friday.

Meanwhile, a police officer was abducted by suspected PKK members in Diyarbakir, local media Today's Zaman reported.

The police officer Vedat Kaya was kidnapped by the PKK members who were conducting "checks" while driving toward Turkey's eastern province of Mus from the southeast with his family, the report said.

He was forced to get off his car and held captive after being identified as a police officer, but his wife and children were released, it added.

On the same night, two police officers were injured by a hand grenade in Hakkari province southeastern of Turkey, the report added.

The PKK has recently launched attacks on Turkish police, killing a non-commissioned officer in Adiyaman on Monday.

On Wednesday, the PKK members broke into the homes of two police officers and shot them in the head in Turkey's southeastern province of Sanliurfa, for which the militants later claimed responsibility.

The group also killed a soldier and wounded another in an ambush in the province of Diyarbakir on Thursday. Endi
