The recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world major powers was "a historical victory" for Iran, President Hassan Rouhani said here on Sunday.
The resistance of Iranians made those powers, who once said that Iran should not have nuclear energy, "surrender" to the Iranians' demands, Rouhani said in Iran's western province of Kurdistan.
"The United States confesses today that Iran would never surrender" to threats, sanctions and pressure, and this is a "historical victory" for the Iranians, he said.
"In the talks, we proved that we could solve the complicated world issue (of Iran's nuclear program) at the negotiating table, and in the same way we are able to solve regional issues," Rouhani said.
Iran and the P5+1 group, Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany, reached a deal in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on July 14, which would reorient Iran onto the path of sanctions relief, with stricter limits on its nuclear program.
Rouhani also said Sunday that Iran will tackle terrorism and extremism in the region with the help of regional states.
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif embarked on a three-nation tour of regional countries of Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq on Sunday for talks on bilateral and regional issues, state IRIB TV reported.
During his five-day visit to the three regional states, Zarif will meet with the officials of the countries to discuss the results of the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers. Endit
