1st LD: Shallow quake hits off East Java, Indonesia, no tsunami warning issued

A shallow earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck off East Java of Indonesia on Sunday but no tsunami warning was issued, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake jolted at 14:05 p.m. Jakarta time (0705 GMT) with the epicenter at 150 km southwest of Malang district, East Java and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake- hit zone, the so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire". Endi
