Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign said Saturday that the former secretary of state will testify on Oct. 22 before the U.S. House select committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi, Libya, attacks.
The Clinton campaign camp's announcement, however, was refuted hours later by a spokesman for the Republican-controlled panel who insisted no date had been set.
The House panel spokesman questioned the demand of Clinton's attorney, accusing the Clinton camp of attempting to exclude Clinton's controversial use of personal email server and account from her testimony, according to the reports of TV network CNN.
"The committee will not, now or ever, accept artificial limitations on its congressionally-directed jurisdiction or efforts to meet the responsibilities assigned to the committee by the House of Representatives," said the panel spokesman in a statement.
Clinton was secretary of state at the time of the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks by Islamic militants on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, which resulted in the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
The controversy surrounding Clinton's exclusive use of a personal email account and a private email server while she was the head of the State Department reignited interest Friday after the inspector general for the intelligence community informed U.S. lawmakers that certain contents sent from Clinton's private server contained classified information.
Based on the finding, Clinton's Republican rivals on Friday again called for Clinton to hand in her private email server. Endite
