Vietnam's defense minister returns home with "stable" health condition: state news agency

Xinhua, July 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnamese Minister of Defense Phung Quang Thanh arrived in Hanoi Saturday morning with "stable" health condition, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted Major General Ngo Quang Lien, assistant to the defense minister, as saying.

The flight from France's Charles De Gaulle airport landed at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi at around 7 a.m. local time (00:00 GMT), the report said.

Several local online newspapers reported that after landing, Thanh returned to his residence and then headed to the headquarters of the defense ministry in Hanoi.

Earlier on Monday, some foreign news agency reported that Thanh died in a French hospital. The information was then denied by a Vietnamese senior military official.

Also on Monday, Pham Gia Khai, member of the Central Commission of Health Care for Senior Officials (CCHCSO), said to VNA that during war time, Thanh got injured. In late June 2015, the CCHCSO carried out medical check-ups for Thanh but found no abnormal health signals.

Later, Thanh went on a working trip to France and had his health checked there.

Phung Quang Thanh, born in 1949, served as Vietnamese Minister of Defense since 2006. Endi
