China to strengthen int'l cooperation to support quake-stricken Nepal, official says

Xinhua, July 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

China will strengthen coordination with the international community and remain open towards appropriate forms of international cooperation to support the quake-stricken Nepal's rebuilding process, a Chinese trade official said here Thursday.

Zhang Xiangchen, vice negotiation representative for international trade of China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC), made the remarks while addressing the media, stating that the reconstruction is a long-term and massive project.

China is willing to be the first bilateral partner of " Reconstruction Authority" set up by the Nepal government to initiate and implement the resettlement and rehabilitation process, according to Zhang.

At present, the Reconstruction Authority is in the process of getting its Chief Executive Officer.

On Thursday, China and Nepal signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Post-Disaster Reconstruction Aid Project Plan and the Agreement on Targeted Cash Assistance.

China is assisting the quake-ravaged Himalayan nation's reconstruction in five areas: infrastructure, people's livelihood, restoration of cultural relics, capacity building for disaster prevention, as well as medical and health cooperation.

The 11-member Chinese delegation arrived on Tuesday to discuss its assistance in Nepal's rebuilding process, which went through a massive earthquake on April 25 that killed more than 8,700 people. Endi
